NorthWood Tennis: Panthers Earn Sectional Semi Win
GOSHEN – The NorthWood girls tennis team rolled to a sectional semifinal win Thursday night.
The Panthers dropped a total of just 11 games in blanking Bethany Christian 5-0 in a semifinal matchup of the Goshen Sectional.
NorthWood advances to face host Goshen in the sectional finale Friday. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Goshen Middle School.
The Panthers dropped just six games on the three singles courts Thursday.
Freshman Alex Jesse posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles for NorthWood. Sophomore Reegan Miller won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and senior Hannah Walter completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win on the No. 3 singles court.
The Panthers rolled in doubles play as senior Jama Rice and junior Kennedy Wiens won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. The duo of senior Katie Yoder and junior Betsy Nunemaker posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Goshen edged past defending champion Fairfield 3-2 in the other semifinal Thursday evening to avenge a regular-season loss to the Falcons.
Seniors Lineth Alvarez and Cheyenne Kalb won in singles play for Goshen. Alvarez won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Kalb prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.
The RedHawks also claimed the No. 2 doubles court as freshmen Brooke Grewe and Anna Podgorski won 6-1, 6-1.
Winning for Fairfield were junior Morgan Mast at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of sophomores Madison Cole and Kylie Miller.
