A seven-run seventh innings was icing on the cake for Wawasee Monday in a 12-2 win at Goshen.

Stuck in a close ballgame against the RedHawks, Wawasee blew open its 13th win in the conference with the crooked number in an offensive showcase familiar to the run the Lady Warriors have had in the Northern Lakes Conference. Riley Kunkle and Madie Wilson each had two-run hits and Faith Swihart and Ale Brito each drove in runs during the melee.

Brito had a huge game, going 4-for-4 with a walk, three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Flannery reached base on two hits and two walks, Hannah Haines had three hits and Kayla White had two hits and two runs scored.

Meghan Fretz earned the win in the circle, limiting the RedHawks to four hits and 11 strikeouts.

Wawasee’s JV made one stop closer to a perfect NLC season with a 14-4 win. Grace Allen had two hits, scored twice and drove in three. Allen also stole three bases as Wawasee moved to 10-0 in NLC play and 12-3 overall.

Wawasee’s varsity move to 20-3 overall and 13-0 in the NLC with its final conference challenge on Wednesday at home against Concord. Wawasee had never finished 14-0 in conference play, its best-ever finish last season at 13-1 and now winners of 24 NLC games in a row.

Baseball

A wild affair Monday had Goshen outscore Wawasee 15-9 in NLC baseball.

Wawasee scored eight of its runs in the second inning, but couldn’t slow Goshen down as the RedHawks got five in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth before tacking on a bonus run in the seventh.

Gavin Barker reached base three times for the Warriors, doubling and driving in two. Rylan Kuhn had an RBI single and two runs scored and Blaine Greer added a single and run scored.

Charlie Collins had the big hit for Goshen, drilling a grand slam in the five-run fifth. Mike P, Tyler Colpitts, Trenton Scott and CJ Detwiler all had two RBIs for Goshen, which improves to 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the NLC.

Wawasee won the JV game in a 3-2 final. Stats were not made immediately available.

Wawasee (9-14, 5-8 NLC) will close out the NLC season Wednesday at Concord.
