Warsaw Sports Wrap: May 12
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team dropped an 8-3 final to host Northridge Friday night.
The Raiders scored six runs in the fifth frame and a pair in the sixth to down the Tigers in the Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Warsaw took a 1-0 lead with a single tally in the first. The Tigers plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
Luke Baker went 3-4 at the plate to lead the offense for Warsaw. Jared Hawley and Braxton Tennant each had two hits for the Tigers.
Jordan Jones pitched a strong four plus innings, but took the loss for Warsaw. Centerfielder Alex Miller turned in an outstanding defensive game for the Tigers.
Warsaw drops to 6-14 overall and goes to 3-9 in NLC play. Northridge improves to 17-3 overall and sits at 10-2 in league action.
Warsaw plays at doubleheader at Carroll Saturday at 10 a.m.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team came out on the short end of an 7-1 final at Northridge Friday evening.
Northridge scored four runs in the second and three in the fourth to take command. Meghan Bontrager led Northridge with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Allison Hostetler was strong in the circle, allowing just three hits and one earned and overcame six walks with nine strikeouts.
Riley Bloemendaal had Warsaw’s lone RBI, scoring Lauren Shaffner in the top of the second on a fielder’s choice. Morgan Ashtari added a double and stolen base and Saylor Bradley had two hits for the Lady Tigers.
Courtney Chookie took the pitching loss for the Tigers. The sophomore allowed four earned runs and had one strikeouts and three walks.
Warsaw, which lost 6-5 to the Raiders at home back on April 26, was outhit 6-3 in the contest and had three errors to none for the Raiders.
The Tigers fall to 8-9 overall and go to 6-6 in league play with the Northern Lakes Conference loss. The Raiders improved to 15-7 overall and move to 9-3 in conference action.
Warsaw hosts its own Tiger Tournament Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
