WARSAW — The Winona Lake Limitless Park will be continuing into the second phase of its construction project by  constructing four family bathroom units by the park.

During the Kosciusko County Convention, Recreation and Visitors Commission Wednesday, May 10, Winona Lake Town Coordinator Craig Allebach requested the commission approve the disbursement of $25,000 in additional funds towards the cost of construction for the bathrooms.

Allebach explained the park had originally requested $50,000 from the Commission in 2015 to pay for the bathrooms, however, they have been unable to use the funds because they have not been able to secure the total cost of the bathrooms.

The construction of the bathrooms is anticipated to cost $152,000. The price has gone down from an original quote of over $200,000. Allebach explained the plans were reconstructed, bringing down costs.

The plan is to build four family unit bathrooms. The bathrooms will include showers on the outside of the building. Allebach mentioned the current bathrooms in the park do not provide adequate needs for patrons. They hope to renovate those bathrooms in the future.

Allebach mentioned the park has applied for additional grants to gain the remaining funds to begin construction in the next few months.

The commission unanimously approved to grant the park $25,000 to construct restrooms for the Limitless Park.

The City-County Athletic Complex is expected to purchase the land it currently leases from RR Donnelley.

During the meeting, the CCAC requested $36,000 in funds to complete a deal to purchase the land the organization leases from Donnelley’s.

Vice President  Jo Paczkowski said she felt the commission should approve the request because she does not want the CCAC to lose its property.

“It’s a potential risk,” said Paczkowski about waiting to purchase the land.

The CCAC has been discussing the purchase of the property since last year. The CCAC planned to purchase the land at the beginning of this year but had been unable to due to lack of funds.

The commission unanimously approved a motion to grant the CCAC $36,000 in funds to purchase the land. A representative of the CCAC said he would be in contact with Donnelley’s to continue with plans to purchase the land.
