Marshall
Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accident:
4:36 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 300 block 14th Road, Etna Green. Driver: James R. Kern, Syracuse. Kern was transported by ambulance for medical evaluation with possible head injuries. Police were notified of a single vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on 14th Road, west of the East County Line. Speed and unsafe driving behavior are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
Elkhart
Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
4:09 p.m. Monday, May 8, CR 46 and SR 15, one mile west of New Paris. Drivers: Anne Pierce, 61, Goshen; Rosario Ortiz-Ortiz, 29, Warsaw; Jesse Mitchel, 18, New Paris. Pierce complained of pain and suffered cuts to the hand; a passenger in her vehicle: Madison Keck, 8, Goshen, complained of pain to the arm. Pierce and Keck were taken to Goshen Hospital for treatment. Pierce failed to yield the right of way at the intersection, driving out into the path of the Ortiz vehicle. The impact caused the Pierce vehicle to roll over and hit the Mitchel vehicle, which was stopped on the east side of CR 46. Pierce was cited for failure to yield and Ortiz was cited for never receiving a license and no insurance.
12:45 p.m. Monday, May 8, CR 46 and CR 15, four miles west of New Paris. Drivers: Spencer Gayle, 53, Warsaw and Kimber Bickel, 58, Nappanee. Gayle complained of pain to the chest and leg. Bickel complained of chest pain. A passenger in Gayle’s vehicle, Leann Gayle, 76, Warsaw, complained of lower back pain. Both occupants in the Gayle vehicle were treated and released from the scene. Bickel was taken to Goshen Hospital. Bickel was eastbound on CR 46 and was struck by the Gayle vehicle which was southbound on CR 15 and failed to yield the right of way. Gayle was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
