The Warsaw girls tennis team dropped a tough 3-2 final to Concord Wednesday night.

The host Tigers picked up wins on the No. 3 singles court and at No. 1 doubles in the Northern Lakes Conference loss to the No. 26 ranked Minutemen.

Freshman Alyssa Zellers remained undefeated in league play with a three-set win at No. 3 singles to pace Warsaw. Sellers topped Maya Klopfenstein 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles duo of senior Athena Schlitt and junior Colette Smith collected the second point for the Tigers. The outstanding team beat Emma Westlake and Keegan Thursby 6-2, 6-3.

Alana Brubaker of Concord outlasted Liza Lewis 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 for a win at No. 1 singles. Regan Landis topped Ella Knight 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles play. It was the first conference loss of the season for Knight.

The Concord tandem of Allison Murphy and Meaghan Godzisz beat Libby Jenkins and Rachel Yeager 6-4, 6-2 on the No. 2 doubles court.

Warsaw drops to 8-3 overall and moves to 4-2 in NLC play.

Concord won the junior varsity action by a 7-4 count. Winning in singles play for Warsaw wee Izzy Ray, Jaya Panicker and Emma Hoff. The doubles team of Rachel Boyle and Amy Herendeen was also victorious for the Tigers.

Warsaw plays at Culver Academy Thursday and at Goshen Monday in the final NLC regular season match. The NLC Tournament is set for May 10-12 at Warsaw.

 

Baseball

The Warsaw baseball team dropped a 7-2 final to Wawasee in Northern Lakes Conference play.

The visiting Warriors scored four runs in the fourth and three more times in the seventh. Warsaw plated its lone two runs in their final at-bat in the seventh frame.

Carter Woody fired a five-hitter to notch the win for the Warriors. Wawasee avenged a 13-2  home loss to the Tigers back on April 17.

Jairus Boyer led Wawasee was a 2-3 effort, including a double, and three RBI.  Jacob Garcia was 2-3 and  Gavin Barker 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Warriors.

Alex Miller led the Warsaw offense with two hits. Matt Francis took the pitching loss for the Tigers.

Wawasee improves to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in the NLC. Warsaw drops to 5-11 overall and goes to 2-6 in league play.

Warsaw won the junior varsity game 14-4. Noah Burgh and Ian Glogovsky each had a home run for the JV Tigers, who improve to 11-5 overall and go to 8-0 in the NLC. Gage Lyon had three hits and Joe Wilkinson got the pitching win for Warsaw.

Warsaw plays at Goshen and Wawasee visits Elkhart Memorial in league games Friday night.

 

Boys Track

The Warsaw boys track team completed yet another perfect regular season run through the Northern Lakes Conference.

The Tigers put an exclamation point on another 7-0 league season by beating host NorthWood 80-52 and Plymouth 94-38 in the NLC regular-season finale.

The Warsaw program has now won 48 straight NLC regular season meets dating back to the 2011 season.

Rane Kilburn had big night for coach Matt Thacker’s NLC champions. Kilburn sailed 20-25 to win the long jump event. He also ran a leg on a pair of winning relay teams for the Tigers.

The 4 X 100 team of Kilburn, Will McGarvey, Alijah Wade and Tristan Larsh took top honors in 43.57. The 4 X 400 relay team of Kilburn, Wade, D’Andre Street and Ridley Lemon hit the finish line in first in a time of 3:29.43.

Larsh also picked up a win in the 200 with a top time of 22.62. Justin Fleming won the 800 in 2:02.85 and Zeb Hernandez took the 1,600 in 4:35.98.

The Tigers also won the 4 X 800 relay event with the team of Fleming, Kennis Dye, Gary Keyes and Trent Shepherd winning in 8:39.88.

Dalton Smoker won the shot put for Warsaw with a toss of 46-9.5.

Warsaw, which finishes at 7-1 overall on the season, will host the NLC Meet on Tuesday night. The Tigers have won the conference meet for the past six years.
