Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 26
Golf
The Warsaw boys golf team stayed unbeaten on the dual match season with a home win over Triton Wednesday night.
Sam Yeager took medalist honors with a 37 as Warsaw shot 168 to top the Trojans, who shot 179, in the non-conference match at the Stonehenge Golf Club.
Luke Delp came in with a strong effort with a 38 for the Tigers, who improved to 3-0 on the young season. Tommy Meier shot a 44, while Tim Rata had a 49 and Luke Johnson a 50 for the winners.
Warsaw’s Michael Jensen, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, shot a 38 in a rehab round. Jensen, who injured his shoulder during football season, is a three-year letterman for the Tigers.
Isaac Wall and Chase Butler each shot a 41 to lead Triton. Braden Kreft shot a 44, while Spencer Johnson had a 53 and Beau Hepler a 54 for the Trojans.
Triton won the junior varsity match 190-195. Zach LaLonde and Chase Byron each shot a 47 to pace Warsaw. Jacob LaLonde had a 49, while Lucas Rhodes shot a 52 and Brian Elliott a 57 for the home team. The Warsaw JV team is 2-1 on the season.
Warsaw will compete in the Wawasee Invitational on Saturday at South Shore in Syracuse. Triton will take part in the Marshall County Meet Saturday at Mystic Hills.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team dropped a 6-5 final to Northridge in Northern Lakes Conference play.
The visiting Raiders built a 6-1 lead and then held on for the win as the Tigers scored four runs in their final at bat in the seventh inning.
Abby Glass slugged a home run and drove in three runs to lead the offense for Warsaw.
Sawyer Bradley had two hits, including a home run, for the Tigers. Katie Anderson had three hits for Warsaw. Courtney Chookie struck out five and walked one in the circle for the Tigers.
Warsaw plays at Concord Friday evening in another league contest.
Baseball
It was another tough trip to Middlebury for the Warsaw baseball team.
Host Northridge broke open a close game and went on to defeat the Tigers 13-3 in Northern Lakes Conference play.
The Raiders, who improve to 10-2 overall and go to 3-1 in the NLC, scored six runs in the fifth inning.
Liam Patton slugged a solo homer to lead the offense for the Tigers. Jared Hawley and Collin Marshall each had a double for Warsaw.
Braxton Tennant took the pitching loss for Warsaw, which drops to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the NLC.
Warsaw won the junior varsity game 3-2. Matt Shoemaker had a two-run homer and Joe Wilkinson got the pitching win for the Tigers, who move to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in the NLC.
Warsaw hosts Concord in a league game Friday night.
