Warsaw Tennis: Tigers Top Memorial
WARSAW – A pair of convincing singles wins led the way as the Warsaw girls tennis team picked up a conference win over Elkhart Memorial Tuesday night.
The duo of Ella Knight and Alyssa Zellers each rolled to victories to pace the host Tigers to a 4-1 victory in the Northern Lakes Conference matchup.
Junior Knight took a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles spot for coach Rick Orban’s team.
Freshman Zellers posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 3 singles position for the Tigers, who improved to 6-2 overall and moved to 2-1 in league play.
Warsaw also took wins on both doubles courts. The No. 1 team of Athena Schlitt and Colette Smith won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. The tandem of Rachel Yeager and Libby Jenkins prevailed 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles action.
Memorial senior standout Krystal Grubb topped Liza Lewis on the No. 1 singles court by a 7-5, 6-4 count.
Warsaw won 10-1 in junior varsity play. Winning in singles action for the hosts were Amy Herendeen, Izzy Ray and Reagan Merchant. The Tigers also got wins from their doubles teams of Sophie Schlitt and Mattie Ray, Jasmine Baker and Sophia Parke, Bailey Roulo and Katrielle Rodgers, Sophie Olson and Jaya Panicker, Addison Marshall and Emma Hoff, Izzy Ray and Kat Josellis and Sophia Park and Reagan Merchant.
Warsaw returns to NLC play at Wawasee on Thursday evening.
