Wawasee Tennis: Squires Rally For Victory

NORTH MANCHESTER – The singles play were key for Manchester in a 3-2 win over visiting Wawasee Thursday night in girls tennis.

All three Squire courts were winners, with No. 2 Kelsey Eichenauer pulling out a 10-4 super tiebreaker in the third set as the rain began to fall in the match over Peyton Rookstool, a 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 final. Leiah Brandenburg took the No. 3 court over Elizabeth Kleopfer 6-3, 6-4, the second set had Kleopfer up 4-0 before Brandenburg rattled off the final six points.

The two courts were essential as Wawasee won both doubles courts earlier in the match.

At No. 1, Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr continued to play well together in a 7-5, 6-3 final over Bethany Collett and Lauren Metzger. At No. 2, Taylor Mock and Courtney Larson won again in a 6-2, 6-2 result against Kendra Auler and Elizabeth Anguilm.

For the team marbles, Manchester No. 1 Karly Eichenauer had to battle with Meg Heinisch, but managed a 6-3, 6-1 clincher for the Squires.

Wawasee and Manchester split the JV courts two apiece. The doubles team of Brittany Jackson and Molly Jones and the singles play of Brianna Haessig were victorious for the Lady Warriors.

Wawasee (2-7) will play in its home tournament Saturday.
