Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 19
Baseball
The offenses were in high gear as Goshen outscored host Warsaw 12-9 in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Liam Patton had a huge night at the plate for the Tigers. Patton went 4-4 with a grand slam homer and a double to go with four RBI.
Bryce Sensibaugh and Luke Baker each had two hits and a pair of RBI for Warsaw.
Braxton Tennant took the pitching loss for the Tigers.
Robbie Riegsecker had three hits, including a home run, and five RBI to pace Goshen. Michael Pinarksi had three hits and scored four runs for the RedHawks.
Warsaw drops to 3-4 overall and goes to 1-1 in the NLC. Goshen improves to 8-3 overall and moves to 1-1 in league play.
The Warsaw junior varsity team edged Goshen 4-3. Josh Ehrlinger drew a walk to force home the winning run for the walk-off win. Ian Glogovsky had three hits and two RBI and Drake Graham two hits. Joe Wilkinson picked up the pitching win for the Tigers, who are now 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the NLC.
Warsaw hosts Culver Academy Thursday night and then entertains Plymouth in another league game Friday evening.
Softball
A great start helped the Warsaw softball team notch a 10-5 win over host Goshen.
The Tigers plated seven runs in the opening frame en route to the Northern Lakes Conference win.
Courtney Chookie had a big night for the winners. The sophomore had two hits and two RBIs. She also went all seven innings in the circle, striking out eight and walking just one.
Jordan McClone had two hits and Morgan Ashtari two RBI for the Tigers, who improved to 3-4 overall and evened their NLC record at 1-1.
Elkah DeVoe led Goshen with two hits. The RedHawks fall to 6-4 overall and drop to 1-1 in NLC action.
Warsaw plays at league foe Plymouth Friday night.
Girls Tennis
The Warsaw girls tennis team collected a 5-0 conference win over Northridge.
Freshman Alyssa Zellers led the way for the Tigers with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Host Warsaw dropped just four games on the three singles courts to even its league record at 1-1.
Liza Lewis notched a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 and Ella Knight posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 for the Tigers.
Warsaw dominated the doubles courts too. The tandem of Colette Smith and Athena Schlitt won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while the duo of Rachel Yeager and Rachel Boyle won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
The Tigers improve to 3-1 overall and even their NLC mark at 1-1. Northridge drops to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Warsaw won all five junior varsity matches before rain ended play. Winning in singles action were Libby Jenkins, Amy Herendeen and Izzy Ray. The doubles teams of Maddie Ray and Sophia Schlitt and Jasmine Baker and Jaya Panicker also were victorious.
Warsaw plays at Fairfield Thursday evening.
