Virgie M. Jernigan, 95, North Webster, passed away at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home. She was born Jan. 8, 1922 in Springfield, Tenn. to William Boyd and Sara S. (Carver) Bush.

She attended Orlinda High School in Orlinda, Tenn. and moved to North Webster in 1953 from Cross Plains, Tenn. On July 27, 1940 in Franklin, Ky. she married Hubert L. Jernigan who preceded her on March 8, 2000. She retired in 1983 as a florist and head cashier for Augsbuger’s Super Value in North Webster after several years and was formerly employed at Syracuse Rubber Company.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Oswego for 50+ years and former member of the Charm & Chatter Home Economics Club in North Webster. She enjoyed making quilts and crafts.

She is survived by her three sons: Wayne (Maria) Jernigan, William “Willy” Jernigan and Don Jernigan, all of North Webster; one daughter, Sara (Rick) Edgar, Goshen; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; a special nephew and niece: Michael and Brenda Abernathy, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law: Mildred (Walter) Gilbert, Syracuse.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Kenneth Jernigan, granddaughter: Monica Jernigan, four brothers, and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Roderick Smith, former minister of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
