Bernice E. Schrader, 87, of rural Columbia City, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 at Orchard Pointe in Kendallville where she became a resident last November.
She was born August 6, 1929 in Union Township, Whitley County a daughter of Wilbert Lewis and Carrie (Rhoades) Worrick. A lifelong resident of Whitley County, she graduated from Coesse High School in 1947.
On February 1, 1948 she was united in marriage to V. LaVern Schrader. They made their home in Columbia Township. Mr. Schrader died June 12, 1999.
In addition to assisting with the family farm operations, Bernice worked at Strouse’s Mens Wear for a short time.
She was a member of Oak Grove Church of God.
Surviving relatives include four sons, Douglas (Sheryl) Schrader of Columbia City, Craig (Brenda) Schrader of Tekonsha MI, Arden Schrader and Brent (Mary Ann) Schrader, both of Columbia City; ten grandchildren, Scott Schrader, Seth Schrader, Sarah Giszewski, Kyle Schrader, Kitrick Schrader, Kohl Schrader, Dustin Pettigrew, Tiffany McIntosh, Tabitha McIntosh and Brittany McIntosh; and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Worrick.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
