SOUTH BEND – Grace’s men’s golf team narrowly missed out on winning the IU-South Bend Invitational on Saturday, finishing second out of five teams.

The tournament, originally scheduled for two days, was condensed to a one-day, two-round format after heavy rains on Friday.

The Lancers were in second after the first round, combining to score 321 to stay five strokes off the lead. Chad Spence and Jonathan Schram shot identical 78s to lead the Lancers.

In the second round, Grace made up ground by shooting a 317. The Lancers ended the day just three strokes behind overall team champion IU-Northwest.

Spencer and Schram continued their strong days as Spencer hit 79, and Schram carded an 80.

Tyler Ham also placed in the top-10, carding a consistent 80-80 to place eighth. Tristan Nienhuis improved by seven strokes between the rounds (85-78), and Cameron Bates and Zachary Allyn rounded out the team’s scoring.
