WARSAW – The 2017 softball campaign for the Warsaw Tigers opened with a bright spot, a 4-2 win over visiting Mishawaka Wednesday afternoon.
Warsaw spotted Mishawaka a two-run lead in the first inning, but Courtney Chookie and her defense clamped down. Chookie allowed just four hits and a walk in the complete game performance, and contributed with two hits and an RBI at the plate.
Warsaw tied the game in the fifth inning at 2-2, then Morgan Ashtari drove in the go-ahead run to cap a three-run frame. Katie Anderson provided an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single.
Lauren Shaffner and Abby Glass each had a hit and run scored for the Tigers.
Warsaw (1-0) will head into Spring Break then come back April 11 to host East Noble.
