WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after he ordered drugs to be sent through the United States Postal Service on at least two occasions.

Kristopher Macnak, 28, 503 N Lincoln St., is being charged with possession of a narcotic, a level 6 felony.

On Aug. 22, 2016, the Warsaw Police Department received information that a USPS package had been delivered to a mailbox in Kosciusko County. The package was addressed to Macnak and contained 20 tramadol pills, an opioid pain medication used to treat pain. The package was mistakenly delivered to the wrong mailbox.

On Sept. 2, 2016, a USPS inspector contacted the Warsaw Police Department and advised that three more packages had arrived to be delivered at Macnak’s Warsaw residence. Two of the packages were addressed to Macnak and the third listed a different name.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Macnak had been calling the Warsaw Post Office asking if he could pick up the packages. A WPD officer notified the post office to allow Macnak to pick up the packages.

Later that day, Macnak picked up the three packages. The officer followed him out of the building and identified himself to Macnak. Macnak then admitted that the packages contained an opiate derivative, furanyl fentanyl. Furanyl fentanyl is an opioid designer drug that was listed as a Schedule I drug on Nov. 29, 2016. At the point of the package delivery, it was still legal and Macnak advised he needed it because he was an addict.

Macnak admitted that he did order the previous package that contained the tramadol pills, which are only legal with a valid prescription.

The officer then searched the three packages. In the two packages addressed to Macnak, the officer discovered 1.37 grams of furanyl fentanyl. In the package addressed to the other individual, the officer discovered 1.41 grams of fentanyl, which is illegal. Macnak advised that he did not order the package that was not addressed to his name.

Macnak was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on March 11 with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
