Grace Basketball: Top Seed Marian Tops Lancers

Grace College SportsINDIANAPOLIS – The Grace College women’s basketball team dropped a 79-50 final Friday night to host Marian in a semifinal matchup of the Crossroads League Tournament.

The Lancers stayed close with the top-seeded Knights through the opening half. Marian led just 39-32 at halftime of the contest in the third meeting of the season between the two teams.

Marian then outscored Grace 40-18 in the final half, including 17-4 in the final quarter, to pull away.

Chloe Pridgen led the offense for the Lancers with 14 points. Haley Richardson scored 12 points, while Vironnica Drake finished with eight and Pam Miller seven.

Grace shot 20-56 overall from the field, including 2-11 from distance. The Lancers had 19 turnovers in the loss.

Grace, which drops to 15-17, was coming off its first-ever conference tourney win Tuesday night after beating Taylor 66-58 in Winona Lake.

Marian, which beat Grace 68-29 and 91-73 during the regular season, got 19 points from Ana Kirby and 18 from Kellie Kirkhoff Friday night.

Marian shot 28-62 overall from the field, including 10-27 from 3-point range. The hosts had just eight turnovers.

Grace will play at Indiana Wesleyan in the NCCAA Midwest Regionals this coming week. The Lancers then host the NCCAA Nationals starting on March 15.

Marian, now 29-3, will host Saint Francis Monday at 7 p.m. in the title game of the league tournament.
