National Weather Service Issues Hazardous Weather Outlook

National Weather Service The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana has issued a hazardous weather outlook, advising that Kosciusko and surrounding counties are at an enhanced risk for severe weather, with the best window for severe conditions occurring Friday, Feb. 24, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. This hazardous weather alert also includes portions of southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.

Forecasters state this system depends on several conditions coming together at the right time and place and caution that it is difficult to determine more than twelve hours ahead of time. The greatest threat is to the area east of US 31.

Storms will develop across the Midwest Friday afternoon and then progress eastward during the evening. There is still some uncertainty as to the timing of the storms.

Damaging winds with gusts as high as 30 mph are the main threat related to this weather system. There is also the potential for hail and isolated tornados.

The National Weather Service offers the following tips:

  • Have a reliable way to receive news of severe weather.
  • Have a plan in place.
  • Be prepared to take shelter.
  • When thunder roars, go indoors.
