BOURBON – Triton junior Hannah Wanemacher was bestowed a huge honor, being named the Most Valuable Player of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference for the girls basketball season.

Wanemacher was named MVP after leading Triton to a second-place finish in the conference after an epic triple-overtime loss to North Judson in the defacto championship game played in late January in Bourbon. The Blue Jays won the conference title outright with its 8-0 mark, Triton falling to 6-2 to tie Winamac for second after the heartbreaking defeat. The Lady Trojans were 8-15 overall.

Wanemacher, who averaged 13.3 points per game this season overall, was a tick better in HNAC games at 16.9 points per night. Wanemacher’s season-high 25 points in a win against Pioneer set up the showdown with North Judson, to which the Blue Jays managed to hold the junior to just six points.

Wanemacher has led Triton in scoring the past two seasons.

Joining Wanemacher on the First Team in the conference is junior forward Nicole Sechrist and freshman guard Whytnie Miller was chosen Honorable Mention All-HNAC.

The HNAC First Team included North Judson’s Casey Korniak, Madeline Schumacher and Megan Schumacher and Winamac’s Camryn Kopka and Alyssa Wagner. Knox and LaVille each finished 5-3, the Redskins with Lindsey Simpson and the Lancers with Ayrn Eash. West Central (3-5) had Adriana Barlow, Caston (2-6) had Emily Rowe and Pioneer (1-7) had Haley McWherter. Culver (0-8) did not have anyone on the First Team.

Honorable Mentions went to Emily Holt of Caston, Courtney Salyer of Culver, Lindsey Aschlenbrenner of LaVille, Leslie Kroft and Makayla Richie of Knox, Lauren Cox of North Judson, Clarissa Blackburn of West Central and Erika Brogdon of Winamac.
