Children’s programs are back in full swing at the Syracuse Public Library.

SYRACUSE — The following events will take place at the Syracuse Public Library:

February Begins Many New Programs

The Syracuse Library is bringing new programming beginning in February. The following programs are starting for the first time. Harry Potter club for is asking young people to choose a house, take their picture, and get information about the monthly meetings. Also for young adults are monthly Pokémon meetings and game day groups at 5 p.m. on the third and fourth Thursdays.

Three “Bachelor” viewing parties will follow the day after the reality program airs. Please let the library know if you are interested in coming to these Tuesday evening gatherings. Also, for a mature audience is Pyramid Yoga, a five week series of exercises that show basic prop-based and chair yoga moves that progress to more strenuous standing versions. Participants choose their comfort level of activity when the classes meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays from Feb. 21 through March 28.

An Evergreen card and a legal ID will allow adults to check out a Chromebook or Assus mini-computer, or a Kindle Fire to use in the library.

Plans for the Week

The adult book club, one book, one hour, is meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8. When an author is defined by one book, that book is well worth reading. Maria Semple is known for writing the runaway best seller, “Where’d You Go, Bernadette.” The story, except for the surprising last half of the book, is a loose biography of Semple’s move to gloomy and insular Seattle. “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” is a definite contender for a place on the list of must-read books. Walk in and pick up a copy.

The children’s department says to come in and make a Valentine’s craft at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Anyone that hasn’t made their mittens to enter in the mitten coloring contest has until judging on Feb. 27.

Story time for preschoolers is starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, with a story, activity, and a craft. Toddle on over is meeting at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday. Toddlers, ages one year through three years, have a social time with songs, rhymes and movement activities. After school at four offers an every Thursday invitation to children in grades K through five to come for fun activities and snacks.

String Theory fiber-crafts group will meet at 5:30 p.m. each Thursday through March. Did you know there is a free app to keep track of your rows, hooks or needle size and pattern?
