Robert L. “Bob” Westerhof, Warsaw, passed away at 11:29 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home of Fort Wayne at the age of 74.

He was born on July 6, 1942 in Morrison, Ill. to Theodore Westerhof and Annette (Rozema) Westerhof.  On Nov. 22, 1970 in Vietnam he was married to Luyen Thi Vu, who survives in Warsaw.

Bob was a 1965 graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., receiving his Bachelor’s degree and also one year of seminary.  He served active duty in the U.S. Army as a logistics specialist and as an assistant to the chaplain in Vietnam from 1966-1968. Following his honorable discharge he worked as a missionary English teacher.  In 1973 he began his 31 year career as an employment counselor with Indiana State Employment Services, until his retirement in 2004.

Bob was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 44 years where he was a strong supporter of many local area churches. He was an avid reader and loved to sing, most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years: Luyen Thi Westerhof, Warsaw; three sons: Tom (wife Nicole) Westerhof, Warsaw; Ted (wife Lauri) Westerhof, Warsaw; Timothy (wife Shelley) Westerhof, Indianapolis; and four grandchildren:  Gemma, Dax, Harper and Hayes. He also leaves behind two sisters: Marian Dykema, Morrison, Ill.; Lois (husband Leo) Gelwicks, Mount Carroll, Ill.; sister-in-law:  Luann Keizer, Holland, Mich.; and his brother-in-law:  Cy Brock, Roscoe, Ill.  He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Ralph Keizer, brother, Ralph Keizer, sister, Jane Brock, and his brother-in-law, Dale Dykema.

A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be conducted at noon Saturday, Jan. 28 at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High Street, Warsaw and officiated by Dr. Erik Ohman. Military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 49 and the V.F.W. #1129 both of Warsaw will follow the memorial service.  Burial will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
