WARSAW — Two new cross walks were installed in front of Lakeview Middle School on E. Smith Street during winter break.
“We’ve been having issues,” comments Cpl. Doug Light regarding driver’s not obeying the school zone. “These will give a little more visual awareness”
The cross walks sit at the Wood and Reed Street intersections. They are solar powered and feature two flashing yellow lights. The lights are activated when a pedestrian pushes a button on the pole and flash for 30 seconds.
“We just want people to be aware that [the cross walks] are here and that they need to yield,” states Light. It is state law to yield to a pedestrian in a marked cross walk.
The crosswalks are within a greater school zone that limits the speed to 20 mph between 7-8 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m.
