SYRACUSE — Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating a head-on crash in Syracuse that has injured three people, and claimed the lives of two.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Deputies, along with Syracuse police, fire and E.M.S., responded this evening at approximately 6:13 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 1200 North and Syracuse/Webster Road after receiving a 9-1-1 call of a two-vehicle crash. Officers and emergency personnel arrived and located two vehicles that had struck head-on. Deputies also located two passengers at the scene that had died upon impact. The other three individuals were all taken to Fort Wayne hospitals, with one being listed as “critical” at the current time.
A preliminary determination in to the cause of the crash has determined that one of the vehicles involved had purportedly been “racing” in the wrong lane of traffic prior to the collision. Kosciusko County Fatal Team reconstruction members are still actively investigating the crash and names are not being released at this time by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, pending notification of family members.
