Warsaw Basketball: Ladies Win Seventh Straight
OSSIAN – Make it seven in a row for the Warsaw girls basketball team.
Coach Michelle Harter’s talented team continued its outstanding season with its seventh straight win Friday night.
The senior tandem of Dayton Groninger and Madi Graham were stellar as the Tigers topped host and Class 3-A No. 10 Norwell by a 47-40 count in a non-conference matchup.
Groninger continued her fine final prep season with 19 points to tie for game-high honors. The guard drained 8-14 shots from the field, including 3-6 from distance in the win. Groninger also corralled a team-high seven rebounds for the winners.
Graham continued her strong play of late with another strong outing. The senior guard fired in 14 points on 5-8 shooting from the field.
Norwell, which dropped its third straight game, led 13-12 after the opening period and 23-20 at halftime. The Tigers took a 31-30 lead after the third quarter and then outscored the hosts 16-10 in the final frame for the seven-point final.
Warsaw had a strong shooting effort by going 17-33 from the field, including 9-18 in the second half. The Tigers were 3-9 from distance and 10-12 from the free throw line.
The duo of Page Desenberg and Kaylee Patton each had four points for Warsaw. The trio of Mariah Rivera, Kenzie Welk and Kacy Bragg each scored two points. Senior Desenberg also had five rebounds in the win.
Norwell was 13-31 overall from the field, including just 5-18 in the second half. The hosts were 7-19 from long range and 7-10 from the line.
Junior Logan Rowles led Norwell with 19 points. Senior Kaylee Roller added nine points for the hosts.
Warsaw, now 12-1 on the season, will host its own TCU Classic on Tuesday. Warsaw meets Mishawaka in the opening game at 10 a.m., followed by Perry Meridian versus Chesterton. The consolation game is set for 6 p.m. with the championship contest to follow.
