Triton Basketball: Early Returns For Trojans

WATERFORD MILLS – A roaring start gave Triton enough cushion to pull out a 42-30 boys basketball win Tuesday night at Bethany Christian.
An 18-0 run in the first quarter, which ballooned to 23-2 into the second quarter, was more than enough for Triton to secure the road win. A 22-point halftime lead made up for just 10 points scored in the second half as Bethany put itself in too much of a hole to crawl out.
Grant Johnson was a force for the Trojans, recording 15 points, three rebounds, three blocks and an assist. Johnson was a perfect 7-7 from the floor in the game.
Zac Pitney chipped in eight points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal and Beau Hepler had a pair of threes in the winning cause.
KeShawn Smith led the Bruins with eight points and a pair of rebounds.
The JV game was all Triton in a 62-14 result. Delano Shumpert was the high man with 14 points and nine boards, with Trenton Kreft at 11 points and Jared Bules with 10 points.
Triton (3-3) will host Winamac Friday night in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game while Bethany (2-4) will prepare for its home tournament Saturday that features LCA, South Bend Trinity and Elkhart Christian.
