ETNA GREEN — Barry Baker and Andrew Cook were both recognized for their service to Etna Green at the monthly council meeting last night, Dec. 13.

Barry Baker, currently serving as Etna Green’s water and electric superintendent, has been a town employee for 25 years. Andrew Cook, Etna Green’s wastewater and street superintendent and former councilman, has been serving the town for 10 years. While neither were present at the meeting, the board thanks them for their service.

In other business:

• The council signed nepotism laws to keep in compliance with the State Board of Accounts.
• Workman’s compensation for the fire department was discussed heavily. The department can have up to 30 firefighters on board without premiums changing; they currently have 22.
• Steve Sanchez, Warsaw, went before the council to ask if he could get a zoning variance for the old Pyramid Oil building to put a residence in the business. This is the first step for Sanchez who will take the council’s recommendation before the planning commission. The board approved.
• Fire Chief Randy Byrer asked to put a donated washing machine in the kitchen shared with town hall. Currently Etna Green Fire is not keeping up with standard washing procedures to remove carcinogens after fire runs. The board approved.
• Byrer asked the council and was granted permission to install a projection screen in the common room.
• The board signed two separate resolutions from internal controls regarding cash handling and erroneous/irregular variances, losses, shortages and thefts. The policies are a formality.
• The 2017 salary ordinance discussed at previous meetings was signed and approved.
• An ordinance to use LED security lights was introduced. It will be officially presented in January.
