SYRACUSE — The following events will take place at the Syracuse Public Library:

Winter is a Wonderful time to Read

Winter is a good time to start a book when there are fewer distractions. Book clubs are a pleasant way to share the experience of reading. Children who are reading by themselves are invited to a book club that has fun activities and introduces children to new ideas. Once again Miss Gisela is serving her famous spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13.  An ice cream cake is served for dessert. A more serious side of the meeting begins after all that food. Traci Helton of the Syracuse Food Pantry is a guest of the group and will explain about the need to help feed others by donating food.

The adult book club, One Book, One Hour, is sharing cookies and talking about “The Christmas Candle“. The group is in the meeting room at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, for the last discussion of 2016.

The winter book club, Food from Fiction, is reading Nancy Parra’s Baker’s Mystery series. The story centers around a gluten-free baker who solves murders in a Kansas town. The book club meets at 1 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. Copies of the mysteries are now available to begin reading along with other food-books at the circulation desk.

Learning Activities

Lego Build is meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.  Individuals and teams can challenge other Lego builders or quietly concentrate on their own activity. The Syracuse Library has a large number of building sets available.

String Theory fiber-crafts group is about working on craft projects during the winter. Learn to crochet or knit at 5:30 p.m on Thursdays.Knitting and crocheting are both lifelong learning activities.

Early Closing

The Library will be closed at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, for the monthly staff training and for the annual staff holiday party. Materials are back-dated whenever the library is closed. The staff at the Syracuse Library extends gratitude for a wonderful year of participating in the learning activities in the community.
