NORTH WEBSTER — Indiana became the 19 state to join the union on Dec. 11, 1816.  To commemorate 200 years of statehood, North Webster Community Public Library invites everyone to a day-long Indiana Birthday Bash on Monday, Dec. 12.

From opening to closing, the library will host activities and giveaways throughout the day. There will be free buttons and magnets while they last, and the Friends of the Library will serve free coffee and Indiana-shaped cookies. Patrons can play the “Find It on Woolly” game and the “Indiana Author or Not” contest for a chance to win prizes. For the children, TumbleBooks™, animated talking picture books, will be playing all day on the library’s television screen in addition to coloring sheets in the Youth Department.

At 10:30 a.m., Adult Services Director Beth Smith will present an Indiana Trivia Program on interesting, little-known facts about the Hoosier state. The library staff will perform a Reader’s Theater at 11:30 a.m. and again at 4:45 p.m. The classic movie “Hoosiers”, about a small town basketball team that reaches the state championship, will be shown at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room along with free popcorn. The movie is rated PG and stars Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper.

What’s a birthday party without presents?  Learn to make the perfect bow for your gifts and decorations at Kay Dabler’s Bow Tying Class at 2 p.m. She will teach you how to create beautiful bows you will be proud to put on any package.  Ribbon will be provided or you can bring your own wire edged ribbon. The class is free and no registration is required.

Ann Lohman will entertain patrons with a piano concert at 3:30 inside the library. The day culminates with a nostalgic performance at 5:30 p.m. by the popular Chain Gang, a barbershop quartet composed of Jerry Frush, Phil Randall, Jim Geller and Mike Lewis.

It will be a fun day of celebrating as the year closes on Indiana’s Bicentennial. Everyone is welcome to stop by the library and join in the festivities.
