Donald G. “Don” Matson, 70, passed away at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

He was born Dec. 28, 1945 in East Chicago to George and Ann E. (Hora) Matson.

He attended Roosevelt High School in East Chicago and was a United States Army Veteran. He grew up in East Chicago and lived most of his life in the Crown Point & Demotte, IN areas.  He retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago after 30 years.

He formerly attended the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Chicago.

He is survived by eight daughters and one son; two sisters: MaryAnn (Ronald) Haskins, North Webster; Rose Dollinar, Dyer; two brothers: Frank (Linda) Matson, Hammond; and Robert (Joyce) Matson, North Webster. 

He was preceded by parents, two sisters: Nancy Patton and Florence Matson, brother, Michael Matson.

Private family services will take place at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster with Deacon Marion Carpenter of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Syracuse officiating. Cremation will then follow at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw. Burial will take place in the St. John’s Cemetery in Hammond, IN at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be given to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, 3489 E 100S, Pierceton, IN 46562. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
