SYRACUSE – After three years of successful high school and even more quality years of club swimming, Wawasee High School senior Paige Miller has chosen where to continue her swim career: Purdue University.

The tall and colorful superstar for Julie Robinson’s Wawasee team chose Purdue over offers from the likes of Iowa and Rutgers, among others. Miller has a host of titles and accolades to her name, including the school record in the 500 freestyle, 4:54.37, as well as a six-time Northern Lakes Conference individual and five-time sectional champion. Miller was an All-State and All-American selection as a junior.

Miller confirmed her choice Tuesday night in a ceremony at Wawasee Middle School, the house of the Wawasee Natatorium where Miller had just finished practice. Among the current Purdue recruiting class are six swimmers from the state of Indiana. Miller will join current Northridge senior Katie Hughes and team with former Wawasee star Bre Robinson, currently a sophomore in West Lafayette, in the Purdue pool next year.

“Honestly, I wanted to go to a bigger school that people had heard of,” said Miller Tuesday, who joins her father, Steve, mother, Cheryl (former swimmer), and sister, Brooke, as Purdue Boilermakers. Sister Kendra is currently a sophomore at Indiana University. “Purdue made me feel at home and part of their team. I didn’t get that feeling at all at Iowa and Rutgers is a little far from home and just didn’t do it for me.”

Miller, who is currently eighth in her class academically, is planning on starting the fall as an undecided major.
