Local Veterans Receive Quilts From Thread’s of Valor

WARSAW — Threads of Valor presented seven quilts to local veterans at the Pete Thorn Park Building 800 North Park Avenue, Warsaw, on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The Threads of Valor group is Kosciusko County’s version of the national Quilt’s of Valor group. Seven quilters meet every week to work on quilts for several hours. During the ceremony, members from the North Webster American Legion presented colors during the ceremony.

This is the third time this year the Threads of Valor has donated quilts to veterans. The group plans to have ceremonies to donate quilts to veterans around Memorial and Labor Day in the coming years.

The following veterans were present to receive their quilts: Walter Althouse, Navy WWII; Larry Criswell, the United States Army, Vietnam; William “Jake” Elliot, the United States Navy, WWII; Marvin Hasten, the United States Navy, WWII; Ruth Horn, the United States Army Nurse’s Corp, WWII; Philip Poter, the United States Army, WWII; and Bob Walker, the United States Navy, WWII.

Veteran Beatrice Wiggs, United Nurse Corps, WWII, was not present, however, the group made a quilt and a certificate for her to receive.
