
Roy L. Jeffers, 89, of Mentone, Indiana passed at 12:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at Mason Health Care of Warsaw.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1927 in Yale, Illinois to Gail and Lela (Gifford) Jeffers.
He owned and operated J&J Sales in Mentone for 42 years. He closed the Mentone store and retired in 2010.
He was a graduate of Knox High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He had been a member of the Mentone Lions Club for many years. He enjoyed playing solitaire, bowling, and watching over Mentone from his chair in front of the store. He was a Chicago Cub fan for over 80 years.
Surviving are daughters Juanita Saner, Warsaw; Mary (Kevin) Leach, Larwill; and sons Gary (Mary Katherine) Jeffers, Rockville, Md.; Roger (Bonnie) Jeffers, Bourbon. Also surviving are sister Betty Louise Nichols, Pierceton, 11 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Wiard and brother Bruce Jeffers.
Services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, Nov. 14, at King Memorial Home 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, by Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, with a burial at Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, Indiana
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
