Bethel Basketball: Kindig Powers Pilots

Bethel Pilots SportsMISHAWAKA– The Bethel Pilots and the East-West Phantoms faced off for the second time in school history Friday evening and Bethel ran away with a 125-84 victory.

The host Pilots put together their most impressive shooting performance of the season thus far connecting on 46-of-77 field goals (59 percent). Defensively the Pilots held the Phantoms to shooting just 34 percent from the field going 27-of-69.

In the first half the Pilots gained an early lead but the sharp shooting from the Phantoms kept it close. The Pilots headed into halftime with just an eight-point lead (54-46).

The second stanza began with two consecutive buckets from Bethel forward Gage Ott, but it was senior guard Nick Kindig who took over for the Pilots scoring 21 of his 27 points in the second half connecting on 8-of-11 shots including 4-of-6 from beyond the three point arc. With 4:44 left to play in the game freshman guard Brady Bechtel connected on a triple to give the Pilots their biggest lead of the night (47), and finished the night with a commanding 41-point victory.

The Pilots placed four players in double-figures led by Kindig. The former Tippecanoe Valley High School standout finished with a career high 27 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

Gage Ott added 19 points on the night going 6-of-9 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Jordyn Coon, a WCHS graduate, added 17 points and nine rebounds on the night. Freshman Trey Burns came off the bench to give the Pilots a spark with nine points and six rebounds.

East-West University was led by Carl Moore with 16 points.

Bethel hosts Simmons University (Ken.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
