Kosciusko 911 Receives $62.5K In State Distribution

INDIANAPOLIS — Kosciusko County, along with other 911 centers in the state, recently received funds from the 911 fees. A total of $5.3 million was distributed statewide, with Kosciusko County receiving $62,523.87. The funds will be placed in the county’s 911 fund and used for equipment. The distribution was approved by the statewide 911 board and is the second 90/10 distribution.

Ninety percent of the distribution is determined by population of the county and the remaining 10 percent or $5,760.87, per county, the amount being equally divided across all 92 counties in accordance with House Enrolled Act 1475. The distribution was announced by Kelly M. Mitchell, Indiana State Treasurer and chair of the statewide 911 board.

The county received $56,763 based on its population.

Total amounts received by neighboring counties are: Elkhart: $151,245.87; Fulton: $21,024.87; Marshall: $40,581.87; Noble: $40,581.87; Wabash: $30,087.87; and Whitley: $30,087.87.

As of July 1, 2015, all communication service providers in Indiana who provide wireless, landline and VoIP services must remit a monthly statewide 911 fee of $1 per device required by legislation. This is an increase from 90 cents per device for wireless, landline and VoIP and from 50 cents per device for prepaid, which as been in effect since July 1, 2012.

In fiscal year 2016, the statewide 911 board has sent a total of $10.2 million to Indiana counties for the operations of their 911 centers.
