SYRACUSE — The following events will be taking place at the Syracuse Public Library:

Discover Geocaching and the Next Indiana

The Geocaching International Film Festival  is an excellent way to learn about the recreational scavenger hunt of Geocaching along with meeting people who are enrolled in the activity. The Syracuse Library is officially hosting a screening of the GIFF at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. All ages are invited to attend this free event in the meeting room at the library. The Geocaching site says that for finding new favorite places, people and puzzles, geocaching is full of story worthy moments. The trick is to capture them on film. On Nov. 3-7, thousands of geocachers will take part in a global geocaching movie event. The GIFF 2016 reel will contain an hour of carefully selected finalist films made by geocachers, for geocachers.

Lunch and Learn

The first showing of the specially produced part four of “Hoosiers: the story of Indiana: the next Indiana” is noon Thursday, Nov. 3. A lightly curried, Javanese Haystack will be served to be eaten during the showing of the film followed by a dessert selection. A discussion will follow prompted from segments of the film that focus on trends in rural towns and cities throughout Indiana. Please inform the Syracuse Library if you plan to attend the lunch and learn. The cost is $5 for the meal.

The second showing will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14. This will be a showing of the complete 50 minute compilation of the bicentennial film produced by WFYI public television.

Halloween is a Disney Time

The Syracuse Library is offering a fun, family event for trick or treaters this Halloween. The children’s department will be closed all day Monday to prepare for a Wonderful World of Disney magic. There is no story time on Monday, but will resume at 10:30 a.m.  Tuesday, Nov. 1. Toddle on Over meets at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. After school activities are Young Adult Book Club at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Story and Crafts at 4 p.m. Thursday.
