Grace College SportsHUNTINGTON – In the second-to-last regular season game, the Grace College volleyball team produced a much-needed 3-1 win at Huntington on Friday night.

The Lady Lancers’ win sets up a critical match on Saturday at Marian in the regular season finale. Whichever team wins the Grace/Marian matchup will secure fourth place in the Crossroads League and earn a home game in the first round of the CL Tournament.

The first three sets on Friday were nailbiters. In the opener, Grace found itself behind for most of the game. The Foresters (13-17, 7-10 CL) seemed to have Grace against the ropes with a 23-19 edge, but the Lady Lancers rallied with four straight to tie the score.

Kills from Kari Feddema and Kelsee Zuidema sparked Grace over the final rallies, helping the Lady Lancers (14-17, 8-9 CL) to a comeback 26-24 win.

The second set was almost a carbon copy of the first. Huntington led for nearly the entire game, including a 24-19 lead. But Grace again proved its mettle, winning four straight set points thanks to the blocking of Taylor Baird, Feddema and Tori Bontrager and a kill from Zuidema.

The Foresters recovered, however, securing a 25-23 win on a kill.

Grace never trailed in the third set; the Lady Lancers led by as many as 10 before surviving a late push from the Foresters. Huntington scored five in a row to put a scare in Grace, but a block by Bontrager ended the set 25-21 in Grace’s favor.

The Lady Lancers jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth set and never looked back. Grace’s offense exploded for 14 kills on just three errors, cruising to a 25-11 win to end the match. Huntington was stifled into six kills in the decisive fourth set.

Marta Bleed led all players with 13 kills, hitting at a .256 percentage. Feddema was lethally efficient with 11 kills on a .348 percentage to go along with two block assists.

Bontrager, returning to the court after a lengthy absence from injury, had 7 kills, 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Zuidema finished with seven kills, and Taylor Baird had a double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs.

Caylie Teel racked up 31 digs, Kaitlin Kerrigan had 14 digs, and Sara Miller had 12 more.
