UPDATE: Accidental Shooting In Leesburg

LEESBURG — Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies responded yesterday at approximately 4:42 p.m. to the locations of house No. 233, EMS T-13 Lane, Leesburg, in regards to a reported accidental shooting at that location.

Officers and medics from North Webster/Tippecanoe Township EMS/Fire Department arrived and located Charles P. Murphy, 51, at the residence, suffering from a wound to his hand.  Murphy was subsequently airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, in serious but stable condition.

Detectives from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department stated that Murphy attempted to retrieve a handgun inside his house to shoot at a groundhog outside located in his yard, when the gun was accidentally discharged and the bullet struck his hand.
