Mary Catherine (Hensinger) Gunkel, 59, Leesburg, passed away at 8:41 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016 at her residence.

She was born Dec. 15, 1956 in Fort Wayne to Daniel J. and Dorothy M. (Litchfield)Hensinger.

She graduated in 1975 from Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne and on July 25, 1975, at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, she married Michael R. “Mike” Gunkel, who survives.  She moved to the Leesburg area from Fort Wayne 30 years ago and worked for 27 years as a cake decorator at New Market in North Webster. 

She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Pierceton, IN and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #253 in North Webster.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Gunkel, Leesburg; her daughter: Stacy (Mathew) Cole, Leesburg; two sons: Adam (Charisse) Gunkel, North Webster; and Josh (Ashley Shafer) Gunkel, Leesburg; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; her mother: Dorothy Hensinger, Fort Wayne; five sisters: Jeanne (Harold) Gunkel, Leesburg; Carol (Randy) Arnold, Fort Wayne; Peggy (Larry) Early, Fort Wayne; Janet (Bill) Hause, Fort Wayne; and Linda (Harley) Herron, Fort Wayne; three brothers: Ron (Cindy) Hensinger, Texas; Steve (Phyllis) Hensinger, Fort Wayne; Tom (Sheryl) Hensinger, Fort Wayne; 26 nieces and nephews; 67 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, sister: Kathy Wallace, and brother: Kennith Hensinger.

Visitation will be from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Chuck Herman of the church officiating.  A visitation time will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church.  Burial will follow at the Mock Cemetery in North Webster.
