INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man reached a plea deal in a case where he set fire to his girlfriend’s house and danced on the roof.
The incident occurred on Oct. 19, 2015, when police and SWAT were called to the 3500 block of North Layman Avenue around 10:30 a.m.
Police said Matthew Russ, 26, stole his girlfriend’s car, crashed into a utility pole at 36th Street and Layman Avenue, then walked back to her house where a standoff ensued.
Russ set the house on fire, and then he went onto the roof of the house while it was in flames, and he started dancing.
Police shot rubber bullets at Russ and used a Taser on him, and were eventually able to take him into custody.
Thursday, Russ was sentenced to nearly a year in prison, and 12 years of probation with a period of home detention. He pleaded guilty to arson and criminal recklessness.
