WARSAW — Around 800 people came to enjoy all that fall has to offer at a fall fest held by the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department at Lucerne Park, 800 N. Park Avenue on Friday, Oct. 14.
Adults and kids were able to enjoy all sorts of fall activities during the event. Patrons were able to roast smores at a campfire, go through a straw maze, listen to a story teller, watch a pumpkin carver, go on a hay ride as well as many other fall activities.
Not only were the activities designed for everyone to have fun, but some of them were educational too. Adults and kids got to learn about bats and skunks by listening to Daniel Peterson, a bat educator with Incredible Bats. Peterson brought three bats with him for individuals to look at and ask questions about. Peterson also brought a descented skunk named “Bella”.
Recreation director, Sheila Wieringa mentioned they put on the event because it is, “A fun thing to do in the fall to get people out.”
Future Farmers of America members, National Honors students and local church groups partnered with the park department to make sure the event ran smoothly.
FFA students Dallasen Fulk and Dakota Easterday came to the event to help out pass out smores. Fulk said she wanted to help because, “We like kids and smores.” Easterday stated she volunteered because she, “Really wanted to help out with kids.”
