The Warsaw volleyball team stayed in the chase for a conference championship Thursday night.

The host Tigers collected a key Northern Lakes Conference win by downing NorthWood 3-0 in varsity action.

Warsaw posted a 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 league win over the Panthers to improve to 17-11 overall and move to 5-1 in NLC play.

The Tigers wrap up NLC action by hosting Concord next Thursday night in their annual Pink Out Match. Concord is 4-1 in NLC play after a 3-1 loss to Northridge Thursday night. Plymouth, who defeated the Tigers 3-1,  improved to 5-0 in league play with a 3-0 NLC win over Goshen Thursday night.

Alexie Day slammed 12 kills and Nikki Parrett added 10 to power Warsaw to its win over NorthWood. Kacy Bragg had seven kills, while Hanna Leach had four and Rachel Yeager one.

Bragg also led the serving with two aces and the outstanding sophomore also racked up 26 assists. Parrett and Leach each had one ace. Erin Peugh led the defense with 15 digs. Brynn Durecki, the lone senior for the Tigers, had 11 digs, while Day had nine, Bragg six, Parrett five, Cassadi Colbert four and Leach three.

Katie Swanson and two blocks and Bragg and Yeager each added one.

The Warsaw junior varsity team beat NorthWood 25-19, 25-17 to improve to 17-2 overall and 5-1 in the NLC.

Emma Gelbaugh had four kills, while Addie Dickerhoff, Gwyn Bellamy and Emali Grose each had three. Alicia Sikora had seven assists as did Dickerhoff. Dickerhoff had three aces, while Sikora had two and Gabby Hamill and Courtney Chookie each had one. Hamill had 12 digs, while Dickerhoff and McKenna Hawblitzel each had 10. Gelbaugh led in blocks with two.

The Warsaw freshman team stayed undefeated with a 25-13, 25-12 win over NorthWood. The frosh improve to 23-0 overall and 6-0 in the NLC.

Sierra Derossett had four kills and Brooklyn Slone and Kaia Hummitch three each and Sophia Long two. Katie Schmidt had 12 assists and five aces. Dourest had four aces, while Slone and Julia Crater each had two. Allie Mcguire had 16 digs, while Derossett and Naomi Phillips each had six and Crater four, Slone two and Schmidt and Reagan Roulo one each. Long had two blocks and Hummitch and Derossett each had one.

Warsaw hosts Concord next Thursday night starting with the freshman and JV matches at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Soccer

The Warsaw boys soccer team tuned up for postseason play with a big win in their regular-season finale.

The host Tigers wrapped up Northern Lakes Conference play with a 4-2 win over Northridge.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead only to see Warsaw tie the game on a goal by Andrew Mevis, assisted by Eric O’cock. Northridge took a 2-1 lead before a goal by Blake Burns tied the contest at 2-2 at halftime.

The Tigers got goals by both O’cock and Burns in the second half to notch the win.

The duo of Pedro Monsivais and Justin Voss, along with goalie Thomas Rivera, were cited for their play defensively for the Tigers.

Warsaw improves to 6-9-2 overall and finishes at 3-4 in NLC action.

The Tigers won the junior varsity contest by a 5-1 final. Adam Brown scored three goals and Jorge Rico and Zach Chilcutt each had one for Warsaw, which finishes its season at 10-2 overall and 5-2 in the NLC.

Warsaw will face Culver Academy on Monday at 6 p.m. in the opener of the Plymouth Sectional.
