WARSAW — Four North Manchester residents are arrested after stealing over $1,600 of merchandise from Walmart on at least four separate occasions.
John Leonard Glenn, 61, 308 S. 1st St., North Manchester, was arrested for corrupt business influence, a level 5 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; three counts of theft, class A misdemeanors, and attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor.
June Ann Johnson, 60, 906 W. 3rd St., North Manchester, was arrested for corrupt business influence, a level 5 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; three enhanced counts of theft, level six felonies; and attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor.
Shirley Ann Winkler, 79, 906 W. 3rd St., North Manchester, was arrested for corrupt business influence, a level 5 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; two counts of theft, class A misdemeanors; and attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor.
Frances W. Moore, 61, 308 S. 1st St., North Manchester, was arrested for corrupt business influence, a level 5 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; three counts of theft, class A misdemeanors; and attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On Aug. 15, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department was dispatched to an attempted theft at Walmart. Upon arriving, the officer spoke with the asset protection employee. The employee advised that she observed four individuals push a cart of merchandise past the point of purchase area without paying.
When the employee approached the four suspects, they all quickly left the cart in the lobby and exited the store. Three of the suspects got into one vehicle, registered to Moore.
The officer located the vehicle and conducted a stop. He identified the driver as Johnson and the passengers as Winkler and Moore. The fourth suspect was identified by Walmart surveillance video and records as Glenn.
According the the affidavit of probable cause, on July 28, Moore and Glenn entered Walmart. While in the store, they returned a ladder and received a refund for the cost of the ladder on a gift card. After the refund transaction was completed, they selected another ladder and carried it out of the store without paying for it.
On Aug. 5, surveillance video shows Glenn, Johnson, Moore and Winkler enter Walmart. While walking around the store, they worked together to select merchandise, place it in their carts and bags and exit the store without paying for the merchandise.
This same routine occurred on surveillance video on Aug. 11 and Aug. 14.
Items stolen by the four suspects were five blu-ray discs, one generator, one skateboard, paper towels, one stacking tote, soft drinks, consumable goods, two baseball hats, boiled water, powerade drinks, two packages of adult diapers, two electronic tablets, plastic fencings, one extension ladder and six pairs of boots. Walmart records indicate the total amount of merchandise stolen was $1,613.77.
Johnson was previously convicted of theft on Oct. 4, 2007 and of criminal conversion on Nov. 24, 2004. Both of those incidents occurred in Elkhart County.
