Cross Country

The Warsaw cross country teams wrapped up conference action with a pair of wins.

The No. 4 ranked girls team topped host NorthWood 18-45 and beat Concord 24-33 in a Northern Lakes Conference triangular.

The No. 22 ranked boys team bested NorthWood 17-45 and beat Concord 23-33 in the final league matchup of the regular season.

Anna Craig paced coach Matt Campbell’s ladies as they closed out NLC action at a perfect 7-0. Craig won the girls race for the Tigers.

Allison Miller was second for Warsaw with Lauren Orr sixth and Megan Metzger eighth. Amanda Hermann placed 10th with Mallory Hooks 11th and Tsige Berelsman 12th.

The Warsaw girls JV topped NorthWood and Concord both by 15-50 finals. Lex Desenberg won the JV girls race for the Tigers. Remi Beckham was second, followed by Taylor Stickler, Meredith Phipps, Alex Hermann, Caitlin Kehler and Sierra Palmer as Warsaw took the top seven spots in the JV race.

The Warsaw boys team went 1-2-3 to earn their two conference wins. The Tigers finish at 6-1 in NLC action.

Sophomore Zeb Hernandez, fresh off an impressive performance in a big win at the New Prairie Invite on Saturday, won the race in 16:49 for coach Jim Mills’ team.

Xavi Ramirez was second in a time of 17:08 with Lucas Howett third in 17:10. Taylor Mills was ninth in 18:27 with Nathaniel Gottschalk 10th in 18:32.

Justin Flemming placed 11th in 18:44 for the Tigers. He was followed by teammates TJ Day in 15th (19:04), Hunter Metzler in 16th (19:07), Kennis Dye 19th (19:22),  Issiac Mitchel 22nd (19:34),  Anthony Bass 24th (19:40), Nick Bazzoni 27th (19:53), Eric Williamson 30th (19:57),  Riley Hogenson 34th (20:24),  Luke Howard 35th (20:27), Jack Horoho 36th (20:32),  Caleb Remocaldo 44th (21:02),  Ryan Bonebreak 45th (21:03),  Finn Morgandhal 47th (21:20), Chase Byron 50th (21:45),  Noah Marshal 52nd (22:04),  Landon Roark 53rd (22:05),  Trent Sheperd 54th (22:26),  Jacob Dachenhaus 57th (22:43),  Austin Flemming 62nd (23:17),  Gary Keys 64th (23:31),  Ethan Thompson 66th (23:36),  Victor Mejia 70th (23:51),  Keller Swartzentruber 72nd (24:14),  Marston Norris 74th (24:28),  Brock Hogenson 76th (27:52),  Timothy Farner 78th (28:46),  William Bibler 79th (29:30) and Avery Remocaldo 80th (33:13).

Warsaw will compete Saturday in the Culver Academy Invitational. The girls field there will feature No. 1 Carmel and No. 3 Penn, along No. 4 Warsaw. The Tigers then take part in the NLC Meet on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Ox Bow Park before running in the sectional back at Culver Academy on Oct. 8.

 

Volleyball

The Warsaw volleyball program posted three wins at Carroll.

The varsity notched a 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17 win in the non-conference matchup.

Nikki Parrett slammed 14 kills and Alexie Day 13 to power the winners. Hanna Leach had three, Kacy Bragg two and Erin Peugh, Rachel Yeager and Brynn Durecki one each.

Peugh paced the defense with 27 digs in the win. Durecki had 10, Day nine, Cassidi Colbert six, Bragg four and Parrett three. Durecki and Bragg each had two aces, while Parrett, Peugh and Leach each added one. Leach had two blocks and Bragg one. Bragg racked up 27 assists and Peugh contributed two.

The varsity improves to 12-10 overall and will play at Wawasee Thursday night in a conference match. The Tigers are 3-1 in league play.

The junior varsity team topped Carroll 25-17, 25-21 to improve to 15-2 on the season.

Courtney Chookie paced the winners with 10 kills. Jamie Grose had four and Emma Gelbaugh, Gwyn Bellamy and Kenzie Martz one each. Addie Dickerhoff totaled nine digs, while Grose, Chookie Amy Herendeen each had four, Bellamy three and McKenna Hawblitzel one.

Dickerhoff had 15 assists and Hawbltizel two. Grose had three aces and Dickerhoff added two.

The freshman team remained undefeated with a 25-9, 25-7 victory. They improve to 20-0 on the season.

Reagan Roulo led the offense with eight kills. Sierra Derossett, Katie Schmidt and Sophia Long each had four and Kaia Hummitch and Brooklyn Slone one each.

The trio of Kylie Prater, Allie Mcguire and Slone  led the defense with 10 digs each. Schmidt added five, while Derossett, Roulo and Julia Crater each had one. Slone had seven aces, Schmidt three, Prater two and Derossett one. Long had one block and Schmidt had 17 assists.

Boys Soccer

The Warsaw boys soccer team lost a 3-2 final at Fort Wayne Canterbury.

The Tigers played a strong match versus the hosts with goals by Eric O’cock and Blake Burns in the non-conference matchup. Payne Rager had an assist for Warsaw.

The Tigers, now 4-7-2 on the season, play at conference foe Goshen Thursday night.

Warsaw won the junior varsity game 1-0, Adam Brown tallied the goal for the JV Tigers, who improve to 6-2 with the win.
