WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District board gathered for a short meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

KC recycling director, Shelly Heckert, mentioned they had found a ramp behind the recycling building that they wanted to sell. Southwest Docking and Handling will purchase the ramp for $1,500.

Michelle Puckett, county auditor, listed the claims to be approved at the meeting totaled $55,386.81. She mentioned number was higher than usual due to the timing of the meeting. She stated the board was actually approving almost two months’ worth of claims rather than just one. The board approved the claims.

Heckert asked the board to approve a salary increase for one of their employees from $14 to $14.50 an hour. The board approved the salary increase effective January 1, 2017.

Heckert mentioned the center has been busy planning a recycling day in November.

Heckert stated she and Sarah Fruit, KC Recycling educator, will be attending a two-day solid waste educational conference next week in Munice. Heckert and Fruit will attend both days, and another member of their staff will join them Thursday. Their absence will cause the center to be closed on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Fruit noted she has taught recycling lessons to 6,854 kids this year. She is currently working with area schools to make sure her lessons are up to  STEM standards.

The next meeting will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at KC Recycling Depot.
