Volleyball

The 1-2 punch of Nikki Parrett and Alexie Day powered the Warsaw volleyball team past Columbia City.

Parrett slammed down 13 kills and Day added 12 as the hosts Tigers beat the Eagles 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 in the non-conference match.

Hanna Leach also totaled 11 kills for the winners, while Kacy Bragg had four. Bragg had 34 assists in the win, while Brynn Durecki had two aces and Leach, Day and Rachel Yeager each had one block. Erin Peugh led the defense with 18 digs. Durecki had six digs, while Parrett  and Day each had five and Bragg three. Alicia Sikora had two and Gabby Hamill and Leach one each.

The Warsaw varsity, which is now 9-7, plays at NLC foe Plymouth Thursday night. The Tigers are 3-0 in league play.

The junior varsity team beat Columbia City 25-14, 25-13 to improve to 14-1. Courtney Chookie led the offense with six kills. Emma Gelbaugh had four, Addie Dickerhoff and Kenzie Welk three each, Gwyn Bellamy two and Jamie Grose one.

Dickerhoff led the serving with three aces. Jamie Grose, Chookie and Bellamy each had two and Kenzie Martz and Emali Grose one each. Dickerhoff had 16 assists. Dickerhoff also had seven digs, while Jamie Grose and Amy Herendeen each had three, Emali Grose two and Bellamy, Martz and Claire Clements one each.

The freshman team made it a clean sweep with a 25-8, 25-17 win over Columbia City.

Katie Schmidt had 12 aces to power the undefeated frosh team to its 17th win. Mckenna Hawblitzel had two aces and Julia Crater, Sierra Derossett and Sophia Long one each. Schmidt had 11 assists. Hawblitzel had five kills, while Reagan Roulo had three and Delaney Walters, Kaia Hummitch and Derossett two each and Schmidt and Allie Mcguire one each. McGuire led the defense with 13 digs. Kylie Prater and Derossett each had five, while Schmidt had four, Hummitch and Long two each and Crater one.

 

Girls Golf

The Warsaw girls golf team tuned up for sectional play with two wins.

Madi Graham earned medalist honors to pace the Tigers to wins over host Whitko and Triton at the Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.

Graham fired a 42 as the Tigers shot 185 to win the non-conference triangular.

Delaney Wihebrink finished with a 45 and Izzy Ray as 48 for Warsaw. Page Desenberg fired a 50 and Madelyn Ray a 53 for the winners.

Triton shot 220 in the match. Kate Gardner and Megan McFarland each had a 53 to lead the Trojans. Tessa Heaton shot 54, while Alysha Mat had a 60 and Samantha Edington a 65.

Whitko finished at 242 on the night. Kennedy Krull paced the Wildcats with a 50. Claire Reiff shot a 51 for Whitko. Holly Hathaway finished with a 69, while Makayla Compton had a 72 and Bailey Wright a 75.

Warsaw, now 11-7, will compete in the Warsaw Sectional on Saturday at the Stonehenge Golf Club starting at 11 a.m. Both Triton and Whitko will also be in the Warsaw Sectional.

 

Cross Country

The Warsaw cross country teams rolled to wins over visiting Goshen in Northern Lakes Conference action.

The No. 8 Warsaw girls team topped Goshen 20-43 to improve to 5-0 in league competition. The boys team bested the RedHawks 17-43.

Mallory Hooks placed second in the girls race to lead coach Matt Campbell’s team. The Tigers took the next six spots as well with Lauren Orr third, followed by Allison Miller, Tsige Berelsman, Charlene Orr, Amanda Hermann and Anna Craig in spot four through eight.

The Warsaw girls JV team beat Goshen 15-50 to also improve to 5-0. Megan Dawson of the Tigers won the JV race. Warsaw also took spots two through seven with Taylor Stickler, Lex Desenberg, Meredith Phipps, Remi Beckham, Jamina Fugate and Alex Hermann.

Sophomore Zeb Hernandez paced the Tigers in the boys meet as he won the race in 16:39.

Lucas Howett of Warsaw was second in 16:51 with Xavi Ramirez third in 16:52. Rounding out the top five finishers for coach Jim Mills team were Taylor Mills in fifth place in 17:52 and Nathaniel Gottschalk in sixth in 18:21.

Justin Flemming was eighth in the boys race in 18:33 for the Tigers. Hunter Metzger was 10th (18:37), followed by Kennis Dye in 13th (18:44), Gary Keys in 15th (19:02),  Ryan Bonebrake 17th (19:06). Anthony Bass 18th (19:22). Ridley Lemon 19th (19:22). TJ Day 20th (19:27). Isaic  Mitchel 24th (19:39). Nick Bazzoni 26th (19:56). Jack Horoho 29th (20:23),  Eric Williamson 30th (20:24). Warsaw will run in the New Prairie Invitational on Saturday.

Boys Soccer

The Warsaw boys soccer team collected its first conference win.

The Tigers blanked host NorthWood 4-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play.

Warsaw led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Garrett Reinholt. The Tigers got second-half scores from Cole Voss, Blake Burns and Alvaro Aguilion in the win.

The Warsaw junior varsity team also posted a 4-0 win over the host Panthers. Adam Brown tallied a pair of goals and Jose Sanchez and Isaiah Van Puffen each had one for the winners. Dayne Koontz had an assist.

The Warsaw varsity, now 3-6-2 overall and 1-3 in the NLC, will host Fort Wayne North Side Saturday. The Tiger JV team, which is now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the NLC, will play in the Goshen Tournament Saturday.
