Triton Sports Wrap: Sept. 8
Boys Tennis
Knox maintained its stronghold of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference with a 5-0 win over Triton Thursday in a makeup match from Aug. 24.
It took extra work, but the Redskins got the job done. The one doubles team of Ethan Cooper and Jake Krueger had the longest road to hoe, knocking off Chase Butler and Keygan Mosier 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Two doubles pairing of Corey Heckler and Zach Eby took care of Grant Eib and Tyler Heckaman 6-0, 6-2.
All three of the singles courts saw competitive scorelines. The three singles match between Jacob Heineman and Carter Kuntz had Heineman win 6-1, 7-6 (5) while at two singles, Sequoya Elder beat Aaron Stichter 7-5, 6-1. At one singles, Eian Coad continued his strong play with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mace Eads.
Triton falls to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the HNAC. Knox remains unbeaten in the HNAC.
Knox took three of the four JV courts.
Triton will visit Bremen Monday afternoon.
Girls Golf
Triton put together another decent score, but ran into a strong opponent Thursday. Culver Girls Academy shot a 182 to best Triton’s 214 Thursday afternoon at Rozella Ford.
Hannah Brumback led CGA and the field with a 41, with Amanda Kurteff at 45. Ashley Trub and Eugenia Wang each finished at 48 for the Academy.
Triton had Tessa Heaton come in with a 49 and Kate Gardner two shots back at 51. Sam Edington shot a 56 and Megan McFarland shot a 58.
Triton will turn its focus to the Hoosier North Athletic Conference meet Saturday.
