Triton Sports Wrap: Sept. 6
Girls Golf
In a quad of Hoosier North Athletic Conference golf teams, Triton stood above the rest with a 219, besting North Judson (246), West Central (257) and Knox (271) Tuesday afternoon.
Triton was led by the 52 from medalist Sam Edington, a 55 from Tessa Heaton, and 56s from Megan McFarland and Kate Gardner. Alysha May added a 59 and Delaney Groves chipped in a 62.
Haley Luzzander of West Central and Dakota Okeley of North Judson each led their respective clubs with 53s.
Triton will host Culver Academy and LaVille Thursday afternoon at Rozella.
Volleyball
Triton fell to 3-2 in the HNAC after a 3-0 loss at North Judson. The Blue Jays triumphed 25-23, 25-21, 25-20.
Courtney Jennings led Triton (6-3) with eight kills, Hannah Wanemacher had 21 assists, Quinn Downing had 11 digs and Tyana Spencer served up three aces.
The Triton JV also lost to North Judson by a score of 25-17, 23-25, 14-15.
The Trojans will host Tippecanoe Valley Thursday night.
Cross Country
Culver Academy proved to be too much for Triton on the circuit Tuesday night, shutting out the boys 15-50 and nearly doing the same to the girls in a 19-42 final.
Culver brought home the top seven runners in the boys race, led by Zach Dunlap’s winning 19:20, with Callaway Bird second at 19:30. Triton’s top runner was Shaun Honeycutt, who was eighth, was eight second behind Culver’s seventh, timing at 20:38. Rusty Reichard (21:24), Bailey Watkins (21:38), Josiah Page (22:44) and Brock Watkins (23:19) were Triton’s scorers.
Mary Terhune was tops for the Academy in the girls race, winning at 23:22, with Triton’s Whytnie Miller second at 24:03. A big gap was for third, with Culver’s Marissa Rivera coming home at 25:00. Aimee Gladieux (26:13), Briana Wilhite (27:00), Abigail Powell (27:49) and Michaela Best (28:33) were Triton’s scorers.
Triton runs again Saturday morning at the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational.
