WARSAW — Record June rains caused board members to dip into the rainy day fund in order to fix damage in the library.

The main topic for discussion was the library’s issues with leaking in the technical room earlier this summer. Library director Ann Zydek mentioned, “At this point we need to use rainy day funds,” to fix this room. Zydek estimated the bill for the work could be around $20,000 to $30,000.

The library recently had an emergency book sale so they could move items out of the room that suffered damage from the leaking.

The library plans to move quickly with getting a quote from an architect for how much the work will cost. Board member Rick Paczkowski requested the board members be notified right away when the estimates come in so they are able to look over them before any work is done. “We want to do this the right way,” said Paczkowski.

The board members discussed recent issues with the irrigation system. Zydek mentioned that if anyone had noticed the lawn was looking a bit brown, it is because the system has not been working. She said they had expected to receive quotes to fix it soon, but had yet to see them.

• The library will be reducing their budget in order to be able to replenish the rainy day fund. This will not affect any of the staff’s salary.
• The board approved the vote to join the Indiana State Library Consortium.
