Stillson Paces Panthers In Links Opener

NorthWood SportsLAFAYETTE – Summer Stillson led the way as the NorthWood girls golf team started its season with a fifth-place finish in the Lafayette Harrison Invitational Monday.

Stillson, a senior standout for the Panthers, fired a round of 78 to place third individually in the event.

NorthWood, ranked No. 20 in the preseason poll, shot 369 as a team. No. 13 Cathedral took team honors with a score of 320. No. 11 Crown Point was second at 338, followed by Lafayette Jefferson at 351 and Twin Lakes at 366. NorthWood was fifth, followed by Kokomo (376), Brebeuf( 383), Harrison (387), McCutcheon (408), Plymouth (428), West Lafayette (452) and Lafayette Central Catholic (462).

Sophomore Mackenzie Weaver shot an 84 and classmate Abby Slabaugh a 93 for the Panthers. Senior Alana Benjamin had a 114 and junior Hope Cripe 120 to round out the NorthWood lineup.

The Panthers are currently without junior standout Madison Richner. The co-captain and All-NLC pick last year is sidelined while recovering from offseason surgeries.

NorthWood finished 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the NLC in 2015 under coach Adam Yoder. The Panthers were sectional and regional runner-ups and qualified for the State Finals for the second time in program history.

NorthWood returns to action today (Aug. 2) in the Lafayette Jefferson Invitational.
