NORTH WEBSTER — Alexander David Jackson, 24, 105 S. James St., Milford, son of Kosciusko County Commissioner Vice-President Brad Jackson, has been charged with a level 1 felony of attempted murder; a level 5 felony of battery, bodily injury to a law enforcement officer; a level 5 felony of resisting law enforcement; a level 5 felony of criminal recklessness; and a level 6 felony of criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon.

On July 27, an Indiana State Police officer responded to a police action shooting, which occurred in North Webster.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Jackson, who was driving a gray 2003, Dodge pickup, towing a double-axle utility trailer, began chasing a gray 2000, GMC Yukon, driven by Nathaniel Boyer, southbound on SR 13, from Syracuse. Boyer had a passenger in his vehicle at the time of the chase.

Near the Sleepy Owl restaurant on SR 13, Jackson began to follow Boyer at an extremely close distance, when Jackson produced a handgun and fired three or four shots at Boyer, striking Boyer’s vehicle on the driver’s side, rear-quarter panel, just above the taillight, directly in line with Boyer. The bullet was recovered between the outer and inner sheet metal of the quarter panel.

Boyer’s passenger contacted Kosciusko County dispatch, advising they were being chased by a vehicle and were being shot at.

In the area of the weather station on SR 13, Boyer was able to pass vehicles safely on SR 13, but Jackson drove off the roadway onto the shoulder and because of oncoming traffic recklessly passed vehicles on the right side to get behind Boyer’s Yukon.

Near Lake City Bank, on SR 13, North Webster, Jackson rammed his vehicle into the back of Boyer’s, causing damage. Continuing south, near the North Webster Library, Jackson rammed the back of Boyer’s vehicle again with extreme force, causing Boyer’s vehicle to lose control and travel off the roadway, striking three wooden poles. Boyer’s vehicle continued and upon entering back onto the roadway, sideswiped another vehicle before continuing on south on SR 13.

As Boyer approached the North Webster Police Department, he was met by Kosciusko County Police Officer Donald McCune in a fully marked sheriff’s patrol squad car.

McCune, who was traveling north on SR 13, activated his emergency lights and yelled to Boyer to pull over. Boyer acknowledged the officer and yelled back that the truck behind him was shooting at him. Boyer then continued on a short distance to avoid further possible harm.

McCune then observed Jackson’s vehicle, which was also heading south on SR 13, pulled into the path of Jackson’s vehicle in an attempt to stop him. Jackson accelerated his vehicle and struck the front of McCune’s vehicle. Jackson then continued southbound pursuing Boyer, who had turned left onto East Huntington Street.

Jackson attempted to make the turn to pursue Boyer but lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building.


McCune, who had regained control of his vehicle after being struck by Jackson’s, re-initiated pursuit of Jackson by heading south on SR 13.

Upon observing Jackson’s vehicle had crashed into a building, McCune positioned his patrol car in an attempt to prevent Jackson from leaving. Jackson then rammed McCune’s vehicle with such force, it rendered McCune unconscious.

When McCune gained consciousness, he was again rammed by Jackson’s vehicle two or three more times. During this, McCune was giving Jackson verbal commands to give up and show his hands.

After repeated verbal commands, McCune observed Jackson rev the engine in an attempt to ram him again and, fearing for his life, McCune fired several rounds with his weapon into Jackson’s vehicle, striking and injuring Jackson.

Jackson then stopped his actions, exited the vehicle and surrendered to officers.

Jackson did sustain injuries and was transported to Parkveiw Hospital in Warsaw and later transferred to a Fort Wayne hospital.

McCune was transported to Kosciusko County Hospital where he was treated for abrasions and a head injury. McCune continued to have symptoms from the injury several days later.

Officers obtained a search warrant for Jackson’s Dodge pickup truck. Inside the officers found a Glock 9 mm handgun with one round in the chamber and three in the magazine. Officers also found multiple empty 9 mm casings inside and outside of Jackson’s vehicle at the scene. Officers also located a sawed-off shotgun under Jackson’s seat.

Jackson is currently on probation from Collier County, Fla., for the offense of criminal mischief.

Jackson is in being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $50,000 surety and $250 cash bond.
