Kellogg Pitches Cubs Past Captains
EASTLAKE, Ohio – Ryan Kellogg allowed just four hits over six innings, leading the South Bend Cubs over the Lake County Captains in a 3-0 win on Thursday.
Kellogg (4-7) struck out six to pick up the win.
In the seventh inning, South Bend went up 1-0 on a single by Eddy Martinez that scored Eloy Jimenez. The Cubs scored again in the ninth when Connor Myers got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Roberto Caro hit a sacrifice fly.
Shao-Ching Chiang (6-8) went seven innings, allowing one run and five hits while striking out three to take the tough loss in the Midwest League game. Dillon Maples retired the side in order for his fourth save of the season.
The Captains were held scoreless for the ninth time this season, while the Cubs’ staff recorded their ninth shutout of the year.
South Bend improved to 10-4 against Lake County this season.
